He is a 53-year-old male patient with chronic kidney disease who is on dialysis. He turned out to be COVID-19 positive. He was admitted to our hospital with respiratory failure and uremic encephalopathy (disoriented and agitated). His blood creatinine level was 14 (normal value <1). So, it was clear that He needed dialysis right away. Our hospital, however, is a NON COVID DIALYSIS CENTER, and he was not stable enough to be transferred to a COVID DIALYSIS CENTER. So, what comes next? Indian jugaad worked! We set up an open-air dialysis station for him and dialyzed him there. His oxygen supply was maintained by a jumbo cylinder. On expected lines, he improved after dialysis. His orientation improved, as did his oxygen requirement. He is now stable and, God willing, will recover soon.
In these days of doom and gloom, I signed off the day with some satisfaction.
Happiness comes in bits and pieces.
